One-on-One vs mat class

Clients currently experiencing pain or recovering from an injury gain most benefit from personalised one-on-one sessions.

Clients who might find some of the exercises in the Pilates mat classes too strenuous, enjoy one-on-one sessions on Pilates equipment.

Costs and Booking

A single one-on-one session lasts for one hour and costs $50. We offer the option to prepay for five sessions and get the 6th session absolutely FREE.

We also offer ‘duet’ sessions - you and a friend or partner can learn together, but still according to each person’s specific aims and needs. The cost is shared.

Booking is essential as most clients prefer to have regular weekly appointments. Please ensure you give 24 hours notice if you need to cancel your appointment, to avoid paying for the session.

How many sessions do I need?

Joseph Pilates is quoted as saying:

“ after 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, after 20 you’ll see the difference and after 30 others will see the difference ”

At Chewing Gum PIlates we don’t try to improve or ‘fix’ any one particular thing or to attain a particular body shape, although both of these result from regular practice.

Our aim is to help you to improve the way you feel about and use your body so you continue to make improvements for life.

Most clients feel better connected and stronger after just 6 sessions. Clients come to view Pilates as an integral part of their healthy lives and enjoy returning regularly to the studio.

The benefits of One-on-One sessions

Every body has a unique structure, every mind is different, and everyone brings a unique set of requirements and an individual approach to movement.

One-on-One Pilates sessions allow you to work at your own pace in a private environment. You are taught according to your sepcific aims and needs.

Men particularly enjoy the privacy of a one-on-one session and the opportunity to work with Pilates equipment.

In your introduction to Pilates, we assess your current posture and movement range and discuss with you what you would like to acheive through your Pilates practice.

Your aims might be to reduce pain, improve posture or improve strength, flexibility or overall fitness.

We design a specific exercise program for you and work with you to help you to acheive your aims. Constant feedback helps you to find and maintain proper form and alignment.

Is Pilates suitable for me?

The underlying principles of the Pilates method are applicable to everyone, regardless of age, sex, fitness level, body type or physical limitation.

Pilates helps with the rehabilitation of an injury, limits the effects of degenerative conditions such as arthritis, resolves back pain and helps women through pregnancy and postnatally. It improves posture, flexibility and ease of movement.

Pilates is practiced worldwide by people of all ages, and across the whole spectrum of peoples' mobility, from those who have difficulty moving through to professionals such as athletes and dancers.
